At First Companies we believe it’s our duty to practice environmentally responsible approaches to construction whenever possible. Green building practices are about much more than energy efficiency and recycled materials however, a large part of the conversation includes the effects on the human environment as well and the short and long-term benefits involved for both building owners and occupants.
Although building green has become a mainstream idea, we realize that not every facility is designed or constructed with the intention of applying for LEED certification. With this said however, we recognize the impact the facilities we construct have on the greater environmental community and take as many steps as we can to promote sustainable development practices on our job sites. Some of the areas include:
• Energy efficient solutions.
• Salvage and recycling programs – materials that can be used or recycled during demolition.
• Use of regional and local suppliers and materials – reducing the impact of long-distance transportation.
• Using materials made from recycled content.
• Conservation of natural resources.
The list can go on and on. In conjunction with our LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED APs), our staff is working to expand our capabilities and knowledge base in this growing field, helping our clients to reduce their environmental impact.
