Dr. Meredith Smedley’s out-of-the-box personality and “unique style of dentistry” is both complemented and enhanced by her out-of-the-box office and uniquely styled space.
“Dentistry is a formal profession, but this is a fun and informal space,” explained Dr. Smedley. “I love that juxtaposition. I love that our exam and reception areas are uniquely warm and welcoming, not cold and sterile.”
Dr. Smedley and her husband purchased 131 and 133 East Main, two historic buildings in downtown Zeeland, envisioning a modern and practical space that would put patients at ease. Their goal was a renovation that restored the charm and historical features of the buildings.
The First Companies team, led by Craig Baker, Dean Rosendall, and Craig Schroeder, was tasked with making that vision a reality.
The two buildings were joined together to provide enough space for a welcome and reception area, multiple exam rooms, and an office for Dr. Smedley. Local materials were used to build out the spaces, and the original brick was exposed to restore the location’s historic character. The project, though complicated due to the historic characteristics of the building, was completed, on time and under budget.
“I’ve always had a ‘no big deal!’ attitude about going to the dentist,” says Dr. Smedley.“And this space, which is inventive and bubbly, accurately reflects that attitude. First Companies can be thanked for that. They did a beautiful job of completing this space.”
